The Megalong Valley is a stunning valley made up of farmland, natural wilderness, and breathtaking views. The name Megalong Valley is derived from an Aboriginal word, thought to mean ‘Valley Under the Rock’.
It is a peaceful and relaxing escape where you can enjoy some country hospitality and all located in the Blue Mountains, just two hours from Sydney. There are many activities available to visitors, with a little something for everyone. Options include horse riding, bushwalking, camping, or even enjoying a picnic.
The Valley is home to many wineries, one of those being Megalong Creek Estate Winery. This winery offers private bookings, wine tasting for two, or cellar door wine tasting. This would make a spectacular spot for a day out with a special someone.
Take in the magnificent panoramic views while enjoying some delectable high tea with family and friends at the famous Hydro Majestic. The historic Hydro Majestic Hotel is located on the Great Western Highway at Medlow Bath, and overlooks the Megalong Valley. There are a range of accommodation and restaurant options to choose from in this beautiful building. It was officially opened, originally as a health retreat, in 1904, attracting tourists from all over Australia and the world.
Take in the fresh air and nature while you hike the Six-Foot Track. The track starts at Megalong Rd and will take you past various landmarks, such as the historic Megalong Cemetry. Around 1km into the walk you will follow a track as it crosses the Guyvey Bridge, and meanders through pleasant open farmland with views of the distant escarpment. In time, the walk moves on to more dense forest before coming to the granite carved Cox’s River. Take in the river up close or take a bird’s eye view from the Bowtells Swing Bridge. The bridge is roughly 6km long and spans the Cox’s River. This provides a unique alternative route for the Six-Foot Track.
As seen above, there are many interesting and relaxing ways to explore the Megalong Valey. We suggest you take the time to plan a trip to this amazing area.
